September 2022

Upcoming store vacation

The Vävstuga webstore will be closed from September 16 until October 1. Our dedicated staff will be going to Sweden for two weeks to participate in a Weaving Fair (Vävmässan), as well as visiting our friends and vendors. We are all quite excited about this adventure and we will share some pictures when we get back.

New product: Explorer frame loom

Melvenea Hodges, who joined us for our eight-week Väv Immersion class in 2021, has developed a wonderful and affordable frame loom through collaboration with Becky and Fabric of Life. Vävstuga is now offering this loom kit for sale, along with an enticing selection of 7 additional color packs. The Explorer loom is a fantastic way to inspire new weavers of all ages.

New product: Travel bag for Vävstuga band loom

Pack up your Vävstuga band loom in this new travel bag and take it along with you on trips, to a friend’s house, or to gatherings. This turns your band loom into a compact and protected unit, complete with a little yellow zipper bag to hold all the small pieces together in one place. There is an 18-inch pocket on the outside of the bag to hold your patterns, or whatever else you want.

Our demo video of this bag in action gives you a sneak peek of our forthcoming Band Loom Video Class, slated to be published by late 2022 or early 2023. Just look at all the fun doodads that can fit in this handy travel bag!

New book (sort of): Plain Weave

We are pleased that this valuable Swedish book has recently been republished in English. In Plain Weave: 60 Patterns for Mastering the Basic Technique, Tina Ignell brings us an exhaustive and beautiful study of plain weave in seemingly endless variations requiring just 2 shafts (often threaded on 4 to give the threads more room), using a wide variety of materials and techniques.

Recent classes

Our two Rag Rugs classes with Monica Hallén were a grand success! Monica was with us from Sweden for two weeks, and her marvelous teaching delighted 12 students each week. Fabulous rag rugs have been woven. Be sure to watch our newsletters for her return in 2023.
