New Band Weaving Book: Leksandsband I

We are fortunate that Ing-Marie Frid has chosen to spend so many hours of her time analyzing these ornate and beautiful traditional bands from Leksand in order to produce this incredible catalog of traditional patterns. Many of the bands have either 25 or 30 pattern threads, but the book offers a broad selection of bands with fewer pattern threads, as well.

Ing-Marie has chosen to produce this volume with a spiral binding so the weaver is able to open the book flat for easy viewing of these complicated patterns. Each design includes a graphed pattern and a photo of the woven band. There is an immense amount of information on these 122 pages.

There is still space in our Bands in the Barn class, September 12-14, where students will have the opportunity to try the Leksandsband loom.

    Upcoming Yarn Price Adjustments

After four years with no change in our yarn prices we will be making some minor adjustments, with some increases and some decreases. The price change will go into effect on March 1st. Thank you for your business!

    Väv Immersion Celebration

We celebrated the six 2017 Väv Immersion students with an end-of-program party in December.  The photos below, of their many projects and accomplishments that were on display, are just a snapshot of the weaving component of the program.

One of the great things about the program was the joyful camaraderie shared among the students and the pleasure we all had in their company.

Michael’s single unit drawloom project, and the way it was displayed in the living room, captures some of the humor and fondness they had for each other and for what they dubbed “Weavin’ Town” with their motto: “This here’s Weavin’ Town, where we get things done by doin’ ’em!” We should all follow their example.

Becky and the Vävstuga staff will miss them all!

    Pilot Artist in Residence Program

Three of our Väv Immersion students, Emily, Kira, and Christine, have decided to return to our Farmhouse for an extended stay of 4-9 weeks in a pilot Artist in Residence program. They will be working towards creating a body of work as a jump start to their artistic endeavors and to help launch possible new careers. Vävstuga is honored to help them on their creative way by furnishing a well-equipped studio and access to all of our beautiful yarns at their fingertips. They have started out using “A LOT OF COLORS” as you can see by the first project pictured here.
