Tonya Jones

From apprentice adventures to Vävstuga staff member

FullSizeRender-002We celebrated our most recent apprentice, Tonya Jones, with a belated, but delectable, gathering featuring a display of her prolific weaving over the prior 6 months. Now that she is on staff, managing our shipping and helping in the studio, we will all be able to enjoy her future weaving pursuits and great customer service.   You may have seen pictures of Tonya’s work on our Facebook page.  You can also follow Tonya on her Facebook page, Tonya’s Wovens!   Tonya's 1st apprentice project - towelsIMG_8262Tonya tulipsimg_8563img_9346img_8168img_8183img_9765 img_9764     Be sure to click on this last photo to see the many projects Tonya enjoyed weaving and learning the Vävstuga way!

 Gus’s Rep weave stairway runner!

gus-rep-runner The rep weave runner Gus made last year was finally installed in his home! According to Gus, the carpet guy was impressed as it was his first time installing a handwoven carpet! He did a great job. With thick felt underlayment Gus says it’s wonderful to walk on. No more shoes on the stairs!

Festival of Fabrics November 28-December 2

There are still a few spaces left in this exciting class for our Basics Alumni! Come and weave an assortment of wonderful structures including: 10-shaft twill, 8-shaft plaited twill, 4-shaft huck and shadow weave combined, plain weave with warp faced banded sections, honeycomb, and plain weave stripes. Becky also will offer ideas and examples of ways to use your fabrics as bags, clothing, aprons, and more. You can see last year’s projects on the class web page on our website, but Becky is currently creating  new projects and colorways. Come and be delightfully surprised!

New Treasures Project available this December!

Roy Orr’s Smålandsväv

In May of 2015 an incredible jacquard weaver named Roy Orr came to the Vävstuga Drawloom Basics class. He brought a beautiful example of Smålandsväv with him, which he had obtained in Sweden while stationed there. With Becky’s help, Roy analyzed the fabric and created a project draft so that he could weave it himself. Thanks to Roy, this exquisite project is now available to Basics alumni as a new Treasures project.  Tonya wove one as her final apprentice project and backed it with a sheepskin – shown here with Tom Hayward of Leprechaun Sheepskin!  You can do the same! roy-analyzing-smalandsvav roys-smalandsvavimg_0903-001
